Character Analysis in A Raisin in the Sun

Students begin class on day three of the fluency routine and a quick grammar review based on the stage directions at the beginning of Scene Two. After this work, they return to our reading of A Raisin in the Sun by analyzing a conversation between George and Beneatha and considering what it reveals about their different perspectives on the world. They then dig deeply into Mrs. Johnson’s introduction to the Scene, considering her perspective on the Youngers’ move and how the other characters view her. They conclude their analysis of this section by examining Mama’s decision to give Walter the remainder of the money to look after, first analyzing why she makes this decision and ultimately evaluating how Walter’s perspective of the world changes as a result of this moment.
