SESSION 3: Content Development Session: Dividing Fractions

Throughout New Teacher Orientation, we focus on developing teachers’ content knowledge in a few key areas to ensure that all teachers realize the level of content mastery we expect of Brooke teachers. Here, we start with one of the trickiest concepts in middle school math: dividing fractions. Teachers explore the meaning of fraction division, write story problems involving fraction division, draw and explain models of fraction division, and examine why “invert-and-multiply” works.
